Petition of Solidarity with Tunisian Academics

    0
By Sarah Akel on 31 July 2012 Uncategorized

Academics, intellectuals, science, arts and letters professionals, we support Tunisian academics committed to the defense of academic freedoms in their country.

We share their anxiety and we are concerned by the pressures, provocations and intimidations which are being exerted against academics in the exercise of their functions and artists displaying their works.

We were saddened to hear that Professor Habib Kazdaghli, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Letters and Humanities of la Manouba, is being charged before a court and threatened by a heavy prison sentence. He is accused of assault against female student, whereas he is the victim of aggressions violating all the norms of conduct towards a university Professor and a University Dean, with established offences confirmed by the many testimonies which have reached us.

We express our full solidarity with all the academics, intellectuals and artists who defend with strength and courage, the values of the sciences, humanities and arts. Freedom of teaching, research and creation are a necessary condition for an academic and artistic life devoid of any political or ideological pressure and constitutes a universally recognized value. This freedom is necessary to the progress and development of Tunisian society, to which it peacefully aspires.

Please sign the manifesto by sending a message to Professor Robert Zittoun ([robert.zittoun@club-internet.fr->Solidarity Manifesto with Professor Kazdaghli and Tunisian academics
] ) who initiated it by indicating your, name, title and country city of residence, preceded by the mention: “I hereby sign the manifesto in solidarity with Professor Kazdaghli and Tunisian academics”.
