    “Rule of Thugs” in Libya

By Sarah Akel on 1 July 2008 Uncategorized

A Libyan well known lawyer, Mr. Daw al Mansoury was kidnapped by « masked thugs » in Tripoli, Libya, at 14 :30 pm on Monday, June 30, raped and filmed.

Mr. Al Mansoury (see photo) is an advocate of reform and democracy in Libya and colloborates with Seif el Islam Kaddafi, son of Libya’s dicatator, in his « Democracy Forum ».

After being raped, the lawyer was threatened that photos from the rape film would be released on cellular phones and on the Internet if he ever went back to calling for reform and democracy.

The libyan source, which called this metransparent at 2 o’clock in the morning (Paris time), asking not to mention him by name, informed us that the lawyers syndicate had called for a protest sit-in in Tripoli today.

The source would not comment on the identity of the « masked thugs », which implies they are members of the official security forces.

Raping prisoners has been a current practice in many Arab prisoners for decades: political prisoners in Egypt (especially Islamic fundamentalists)and Syria have often been raped as a means of breaking thier resistance or to “humiliated” them.
