Attorney Maurice El Gemayel, representing investigative journalist Samara Azzi, stated that she was surprised by a circular issued by the Special Investigation Commission of the Central Bank of Lebanon ordering the freezing of her accounts on what he described as baseless allegations, as well as the inclusion of her name on a list containing the names of bankers and money changers who are facing criminal proceedings before the Lebanese judiciary.
Following a review of the decision and an objection filed against it, the Central Bank immediately reversed its decision, pursuant to an official document issued by the Special Investigation Commission.
