LCC Statement: Hundred days of the revolution and we are getting closer to freedom

Statement issued by the Local Coordinating Committees

One hundred days have passed since the beginning of our revolution for freedom, dignity and citizenship. Syrians baptized the revolution with their blood, and surprised the whole world with their courage and determination to be free of tyranny.

One hundred days have passed and the Syrian people are still being killed before the eyes of the world, under the cover of Arab silence and shy international condemnation. But all this has had no effect on the momentum of the revolution and its continuity.

Despite the fall of more than one thousand four hundred martyrs, the arrest, disappearance, and torture of thousands, the displacement of tens of thousands from their homes, and the adoption of a brutal scorched-earth policy, all in response to a popular peaceful movement, we emphasize that our peaceful revolution will continue until the fall of the regime and until we build a new, free and democratic Syria.

The regime is pretending to be well and strong, though signs of weakness appear clearly, as is evident from the disintegration of administrative bodies; instances of economic collapse; continued defections within our national army, which the regime wants to use as an instrument of repression and killing; the hundreds of honorable Baathists who have resigned from the ruling Baath party; the strained international relations with erstwhile close allies; and the confusion demonstrated in dealing with the national crisis precipitated by the regime itself, as was seen in the last presidential speech. Most importantly is the spread of protests to new areas which the regime tried to classify as pro-regime, through repression, intimidation and sectarianism.

One hundred days, and our revolution is on-going. So, along with continuing our peaceful struggle in all its forms, we should work hard to unite our front, revolutionaries, parties and independents alike, in order to fulfill the goals of our revolution, which are freedom, democracy, and a free country for all the people of Syria. We continue to hold on to our national identity regardless of religion, sect, or ethnicity, so that we may create a civil state.

May our martyrs rest in peace, and victory to our revolution for a free and democratic Syria..
