The families of Sujud, a locality near Jezzine in South Lebanon, issued a statement demanding the immediate withdrawal of Hezbollah gunmen from their town.
According to the statement, on the first day of al-Fitr, “a member of Sujud municipality, Hassan Ali Ayshe and Hussein Mohammad Hassan al-Sheikh were hit by gunshots, and the municipal policeman Abbas Ali Ahmad was also shot at.”
Sujud’s mayor was also humiliated and evicted from the house of one of the wounded men.
“We were told that the shooter had been imprisoned by the order of Hezbollah judiciary,” the families said, “but on September 8, the man was seen in town, strutting in front of all to see, and living in his rented house in town.”
“We demand the immediate withdrawal of gunmen from our town in order to avoid needless complications” the families said, adding that “if the shooter stays in his rented house, we will attempt to burn the house down and kill all those inside it.”
The villagers demanded of Hassan Nasrallah to “stop terrifying the families of Sujud“, adding that “ever since 2003, the families have not been allowed to walk except on the main roads”.
Earlier in 2010, the son of Nassib Nasser el Din was threatened, but was protected by village families from these gunmen.
On August 28, 2008, the Lebanese army issued a statement about one its helicopter being shot at by anonymous gunmen over Sujud, killing its pilot, Lieutenant Samer Hanna.
The killer who was a member of Hezbollah was released a month after his arrest.
“Sujud was destroyed by the Israeli enemy and was rebuilt again after year 2000. today, its families are only cautiously returning, not due to fear cluster bombs and mines, but also because of the gunmen present in the village and its suburbs” the statement added.
