Russian sources in Dubai claim Syria’s president Bashar Assad was targeted by the bombing of Syria’s Ministry of Interior on December 12. A car bomb and two other explosives went off at the main gate of the Syrian Interior Ministry in Damascus, causing some deaths, state television said.

Sources add that subsequent verificiations concluded that leaks revealing the presence of Assad himself at a security meeting at the ministry originated in Assad’s own inner circle and not in the ministry.

Earlier this week Syria’s interior minister has been admitted to hospital in the Lebanese capital Beirut after being wounded in the December 12 triple attack.

The exact nature of his injuries isn’t clear but they are not believed to be critical.

At the time of the triple bomb attack, official Syrian media said he had not been injured.
