The other day I wrote—-
”The role of religion and priest in society has a direct bearing on the rate of GDP development. There can be no economic progress if priests and religion are going to dictate the future of nations. When one is so dependent on the research made by the “infidels” the hypocrisy in this part of the world becomes startling. To cure cancer, even the most hardcore extremist ends up in the finest medical centers in Houston, whereas, standing on a pulpit to “destroy these infidels” becomes a slogan.”
Incidentally I came across with the follwing piece of news today: the hard-line ‘Mullah’ a great friend of Taliban outfits trusted no body but the personal physician of Bush to get his heart fixed. No problem to get the best help but this is what I meant about the hypocrisy of extremists political Islam, they like to be under the technology and knife of those who are trained by the infidels, although for majority of Afghans and Pakistanis ‘angioplasty’ remains a distant dream, they would rather die as a result of cardiac infarction but Mullah gets the right treatment and the commoners ”the dose of Jiahdi political Islamic extremism..….”
Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Secretary-General Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who underwent angioplasty at a private hospital in the provincial capital late on Wednesday night, is recovering and his condition is stated to be stable. Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had advised him to come to Lahore, where modern facilities for heart treatment were available. On Wednesday night, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is also leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, reached Lahore and was received by Pervaiz who took him to a private hospital on Canal Road, where renowned heart surgeon Dr Mubashir Chaudhry performed angioplasty. Dr Mubashir is former personal physician of US President George W Bush.
“Whoever killeth a human being, not in liew of another human being nor because of mischief on earth, it is as if he hath killed all mankind. And if he saveth a human life, he hath saved the life of all mankind.” (Qur’an V/35)
According to party sources, Fazl was shifted to his room on Thursday morning and would be discharged on Friday (today). The leader of his own faction of the JUI felt pain in the chest while performing Hajj last month. Tests in Peshawar revealed that one of his arteries was blocked.
The Oath of a Muslim Physician
Give us the strength to be truthful, honest, modest, merciful and objective.
Give us the fortitude to admit our mistakes, to amend our ways and to forgive the wrongs of others.
Give us the wisdom to comfort and counsel all towards peace and harmony.
Give us the understanding that ours is a profession sacred that deals with your most precious gifts of life and intellect.
Therefore, make us worthy of this favoured station with honor, dignity and piety so that we may devote our lives in serving mankind, poor or rich, literate or illiterate, Muslim or non-Muslim, black or white with patience and tolerance with virtue and reverence, with knowledge and vigilance, with Thy love in our hearts and compassion for Thy servants, Thy most precious creation.
Hereby we take this oath in Thy name, the Creator of all the Heavens and the earth and follow Thy counsel as Thou has revealed to Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).
Maulana Fazl ur-Rahman (Urdu: مولانا فضل الرحمان ) is the son of Mufti Mahmud (Former provincial Chief Minister). He is Ameer (President) of his political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Assembly of Pakistani Clergy). He is originally from the Abdulkhel Banyala area in the Dera Ismail Khan district of North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan. He serves as the opposition leader in the National Assembly of Pakistan.
Fazl ur-Rahman inherited from his father mass public support from their native area of Dera Ismail Khan. Of the four general elections that Fazl ur-Rahman contested since 1988 from his national assembly constituency, NA-18, he won two with convincing margins. In the two he lost – in 1990 and 1997 – were, as his supporters put it, more because of the engineered results that entrusted heavy mandates to the Sharifs of Lahore on both the occasions. It was because of the family’s mass public support and large vote bank in the Dera Ismail Khan constituency that Maulana Mufti Mahmood was the lone leader in Pakistan who had defeated the then invincible Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in the 1970 general elections.
Fazl ur-Rahman’s politics, like his father’s, has been at odds with the Muslim League. The father was in Jama’at Ulema-i-Hind (Madani group) which shared the views of the Congress on the partition issue. Fazl ur-Rahman remained in the camp of the political alliances and parties that were opposed to Nawaz Sharif’s League. Only once did he contest the election in alliance with the PML, in 1990, and then too he lost.
Fazl ur-Rahman built his public image by supporting Zulfaqir Ali Bhutto’s daughter Benazir Bhutto during her second term as the prime minister. His cooperation with the PPP to some extent diminished temporarily his party’s image of an anti-secular religio-political entity. His involvement in some financial scandals, specially the charges levelled against him of supplying permits for exporting diesel from Pakistan to Afghanistan, also threw a blot on the party’s reputation.
