Preparation of the World Public Opinion for Starting War with Iran

When the war with Iraq was about to start, the world public opinion was against it. The streets of Arab countries and Muslim east countries were full of people marching against the war in favour of Saddam Hossein. Non-governmental organizations and the intellectuals of the world especially the western ones were all active opposing the war. Arab countries were against the attack and in Europe, France was even an active member combating war.

However, unfortunately at the present situation when there is the dangerous atmosphere of war against Iran, the most important problem of Americans which was convincing public opinion is solved. It is months when American officials are trying to convince public opinion of the world. Besides the issue of nuclear energy, topics like Holocaust, disintegrating Israel, interference of Iran in the massacre of Americans in Iraq, Lebanon problems and the issues of Sunni and Shiite in Islam world specially in Iraq and human rights issues have all prepared the public opinion for war against Iran.

This psychological preparation and preparing public opinion is worse than all military equipments. Unfortunately not only nothing is done inside the country to alter such opinion, but also statements are made which give better excuses for those who are seeking war against Iran.

There is no doubt that taking such status of public opinion into account, Iran is in a very sensitive and dangerous situation. All groups loyal to Iran should feel a burden on their shoulder in this critical and extra ordinary situation. If God forbidden a war starts against Iran, the supports given to war by the world will be more painful and problematic.

Hojjat ol-Eslam Seyyed Mohammad Ali Abtahi was Iran’s Vice President from September 2, 2001 to October 12, 2004.
