Exclusive: Qaddafi’s cousin never defected, paid in cash for Syrian pilots to Libya

Credible Syrian sources revealed that Qaddafi’s cousin and close aide, Ahmed Gaddaf al-Dam never resigned from his posts and defected, as reported. The presumed defection of Gaddaf al-Dam was made public two weeks ago by the pan-Arab Al-Arabiya TV citing an e-mail sent from al-Dam’s office.

However, credible Syrian sources told metransparent that Gaddaf al-Dam “talked” of his “intention” to seek asylum in Egypt but never made an official request to Egyptian authorities. His statement was meant to be “misleading”.

Sources said that, one day before his false defection, Qaddafi’s cousin had landed in a Syrian military base where he paid “in cash” for the transfer of Syrian military pilots to Libya to help crush the rebellion. In 2010, sources added, Libya had provided electronic counter measures against satellite TV stations controlled by ex vice president Khaddam and by Bashar Assad’s uncle, Rifaat.
